Subsequently Brett transferred from Feyenoord in 2003 to play with Blackburn and fulfil his desire to play in the English Premier League.
A former Olyroos captain Brett made his senior debut in 1998. At the 2001 World Cup qualifiers against New Zealand, Brett scored the only two goals in the first leg, and a goal in the second leg to be awarded Man of the Match. In 2002 Brett was named the 2002 Oceania Footballer of the Year.
