JOHN ALOISI STARS FOR SYDNEY FC
15/02/2010
A brilliant goal from John Aloisi has secured Sydney FC their first A-League Premier's Plate and an Asian Champions League berth after they beat Melbourne Victory 2-0 at the Sydney Football Stadium.
After 34 minutes Sydney led 1-0 after a spectacular goal from midfielder Karol Kisel, but it was Aloisi who sealed the win with one of the goals of the season.
Collecting the ball five metres inside his own half, Aloisi turned inside Leigh Broxham and made a brilliant run before unleashing an unstoppable drive from 20m out.
It was Aloisi's ninth goal of the season and third in two weeks.
"It's a great feeling, Sydney FC have never won a premiership before," Aloisi said after the game.
"Now we want to go on and win the final."
Melbourne and Sydney will play a return leg of the major semi final in three weeks time, with the finals scheduled for a week off due to Australia's Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia.
