WATSON COMPLETES SIZZLING SUMMER

24/02/2010

Shane Watson has capped off a brilliant summer by smashing 62 not out off 33 balls in Australia’s Twenty20 win over the West Indies at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Watson couldn’t keep up the tempo set by his opening partner David Warner (67 off 29 balls) but he wasn’t far behind. The two helping Australia reach the West Indies target of 138 with eight wickets and 50 balls to spare.

The win completed a clean sweep this summer for the Australians, with Shane Watson the man of the moment.

The all-rounder was instrumental in Australia’s Test wins over the West Indies and Pakistan, scoring 579 runs at an average of 72.37.  He also picked up a number of wickets which included some devastating spells of reverse swing.

If that wasn’t enough, Watson then switched to one day mode where he belted 296 runs at an average of 42.28 against Pakistan and the West Indies.

The AB Medal winner will now head to New Zealand for a series of one day matches and two Tests.
